We are Fuelmyblog: SewArtsy

We are Fuelmyblog is a series of interviews dedicated to our bloggers on Fuel. We are glad to discover a little bit more about the person behind the blog and to see how you feel about blogging. Starting this 2009 series meet Amy and her blog SewArtsy. If you would like to take part too do email sylvie(at)fuelmyblog.com

What’s your name?

Amy

What’s the name of your blog?

SewArtsy

What’s the URL of your blog?

http://www.sewartsyblog.blogspot.com

How old is your blog?

I’ve been blogging since June 2008

If you’re willing to share, how many visitors per day do you have to your blog?

I would say, roughly 25 visitors each day

How much time do you spend blogging every week?

I spend about an hour 5 days a week working directly on my blog, and an hour or two each week scheduling future posts and making contacts ahead of time.

Is it the creative process or the editing process which take you longest when writing a post?

Definitely editing.  I find some days I write too much, and other days not enough.  It’s fine tuning everything just before publishing that seems to take forever!

What inspired you to first start writing a blog?

Initially I wanted to get word out about my business, but it’s also a good way to network with other creative folks, my Etsy Teams’ members, as well as entertain my friends and family with my musings.

What do you do to get inspired to write?

I think about what’s important to me that day, and if I think it might be of interest to others I’ll write about it - whether its my business, my family, or something going on in the world.

How do you market your blog?

I try to list my blog on as many directories as I can, and any place other moms who blog or artists who blog are also marketing themselves.

What are the blogging tools you cannot do without?

I’m very visual, so I love anything that will make my blog look more appealing, whether its my background, or side bar graphics, or adding my photos to my posts.

Is there anything that you simply refuse to blog about?

I’m not the kind of person to incite a riot, so I usually write with the same reined-in tongue.  I want my blog to be an uplifting and helpful place, but that doesn’t mean there’s a particular topic I won’t blog about.

If you went for a job interview and were told that you’d have to close your blog in order to get the job, how would you react/feel about it?

The job would have to be pretty darn important, but I would cope.  I hope to never have to deal with that though!

Do you talk about your blog with your relatives and friends or do you avoid mentioning it?

It’s something I do almost everyday, so I mention it.  I don’t go on and on about it unless someone seems genuinely interested.

What is the biggest mistake you made when starting your blog?

I don’t think it was necessarily a mistake, but I didn’t take the time to research how to market my blog, and actually get readers until just recently.  Now I feel like my blog is not only better, but I think others out there are actually starting to get interested in reading it.

Any tips for aspiring bloggers?

Don’t worry about who is or isn’t reading and/or commenting on your blog.  If you enjoy it, get started and keep it up!  If nothing else it can be therapeutic just to get words on the screen.

Who are the bloggers that you look up to the most?

Other bloggers who have fantastic craft/fashion/family blogs.  I’m still discovering new blogs everyday, and I’m impressed at how many people have something to say everyday.  It inspires me to keep my own eyes open on a daily basis for things to blog about.

Do you still see yourself blogging in 5 years time?

I hope so!

I also find that I usually spend more time editing, tweaking, and posting than I do actually writing.

Typically, I spend several hours on the weekend writing posts, then use them during the week. I have been a little lazy these last two weeks though…
