As anyone reading this blog will know, we pride ourselves on a spam free, porn free and basically well rounded community. We do not take lightly any abuse reports nor do we like racism, political activists etc. We have and want to create and keep a community where people can relax, air their opinions and know that we all have a voice whatever the view may be, raising your voice here will never result in abuse, why should it, we are all adults and most capable of debate. We do get our fair share of rude and abusive emails from new users, and some are just horrific, we never rise to them - maybe we should simply publish them.
Anyhow, Sylvie got the following comment on her blog today, she simply marked it as spam. I think this needs to be raised. I want you to read it slowly, re-read it and then discuss. I think it is sick, disgusting and frankly awful. Whoever went out of their spammy little way to copy/paste or even write it should be ashamed. They of course won’t be bothered, for some reason this gives the spammers kicks. Is this simply spam or abuse, where is the fine line crossed? Let’s have a serious discussion on this.

Jeez, that is just so sick, It certainly doesn’t follow the normal patterns of comment spam, but I’m sure its just another form of the same blot on the blogging landscape. Still, horrible horrible horrible.
Yep, not normal vigara and meds stuff that is for sure..
This is really sick, it just goes to prove that the sick minded in the world have nothing better to do! Maybe a Psychiatric appointment would help them…
A post is coming up on steps to take to report abusive comments such as this one.
@Sylvie: When I get emails like this one, if I am concerned I do a partial string search like:
no NOSE OR EARS I AM DEAD
Many came up on Google, but this one is the most telling:

No worries, it’s not an individual threat. This one’s been around for over a decade.
Hope that helps.
Used to get stuff like this through the old fashioned mail service years ago …… a little less graphic I suppose. Still I did survive and I’m managing quite well with only 8 toes and a huge wart growing out of my coccyx …………
I’ve had nasty spam before and tracked down the IP address and sent a nice reply back.
It’s not always possible to use this method though as some hide behind numbers but I think this kind of behavior is unacceptable.
Over the years the web has introduced lots of good but on the flip side has allowed lots of bad to invade our personal spaces.
Maybe The Karma police will get them in the end.
That’s just not on. You do have to wonder at the sad folks who have nothing more fulfilling to do than spread nastiness like this. Or maybe they think it’s a really funny joke.
Well it’s not. It’s pathetic!
Wow that is pretty sick. Not your normal Vicodon, Viagra, porn, UK Lottery spam thats for sure.
The other side of this, is that this was posted because someone (perhaps a teen?) might be superstitious enough to believe that bad things will indeed happen to them if they don’t comply. With rational minds, we know it’s just horrid trash, and can joke (good one, DP) about it, but having watched teen behaviour for some time now, I assure you many of them get quite spooked by these things and continue them because they do believe them and would rather not take chances.
It’s very sad.
That is disturbing, my worst comment was saying it was a virus and has attacked my computer. The next day at work the person said they did it as a joke.
Maybe someone can create a app to help keep comments like that out????
Viagra won’t help, sounds like a girl from the wording and candor…delivery isn’t very classy either.
I personally don’t have the guts to go say ‘Bloody Mary’ three times looking in the mirror either. I’m a wussy.
just spam but coming from a not very “healthy” person…just to have attention I would say. This is the threat. To speak about it the way you are doing is a good answer like this “everybody knows” and even if the person who did it have his(her) attention, you are making the right statement. Harassment in blogging is not admitted!
I loathe chain mail even in email or comment form. I taught high school for a while, junior high before that, this sounds like the kind of thing teens do. Still it is inappropriate and it’s good to take steps to prevent this kind of thing from happening again.
I tell my teen & her friends to send chain spam to me when they get them …. I have no qualms about using the big finger of delete
Frac is right that they do get worried about will happen if they don’t pass them on.. so this is a soluion for them
I reported them to Google, wordpress and as I found the IP address and service provider, sent to them too - I bet we get no response - shame they didn’t leave a comment on here
Seriously, Google and Wordpress legally won’t divulge anything other than the usual ‘thanks (insert corporate speak here to make you feel listened to), we’re handling it’.
Best they’d do is ‘nip’ the kid’s account(s). Doubtful they have an email address to forward death threats to law enforcement. (Can you imagine an internet liason officer’s mailbox size?)
I spotted “do ‘this’ or I’ll kill you in your bed”. That’s enough to call the local law and file a report of terrorist threat.
Your other option would be to go clandestine, back track the kid through personal networking using contacts you know, and have a lawyer serve the parents or person other than a parent the child is residing with.
It’s not a latch-key child with a single parent that’s doing this…it’s a child who’s doing it while the parent or caregiver is home.
A good step would be for the internet providers to stop the internet for that particular user after sending warning letters following abuse reports, 3 seem fair, it would force the parents or carer to address the problem with their teens.
