As blogs get ever more popular, we all have tendency of wanting to comment on something we have read, but sometimes we may get stopped in our tracks by several annoying things that a blog owner as done to hinder us from leaving our point of few, so here are just a few things that can put people off from leaving a comment on a blog.
- Signing Up To Leave a Comment
This is really annoying, open your blog up to the world, and get more people to interact with you. - Unreadable Captcha
How many times do you have to try and read a badly formed Captcha just to make a simple comment - A Google Account
Now this really is a pain, a blogger using the google blogging system, hasn’t use the option for anyone to leave a comment and after reading an interesting post you are confronted with Google Accounts only …. WHY!!!! - You Never Respond to Comments
It’s common courtesy to reply to comments made on your blog, if someone spoke to you would you ignore them as well! - You Never Comment On Others Blogs
If you want people to know where you have a blog then comment on their blog, but leave well written and on topic comments.
So there are five reasons, I know there are more, but come on, I’m not going to do all the work and after all, it’s your turn to comment

Always a pleasure to comment on a well written blog about something that matters. To me, Blogging matters. So, consider this my comment to your well written blog.
Karen – you are sooo clever there lol.
I try and respond to all my comments, I don’t have a captcha but have had to start closing comments two weeks after the post date other wise they collect too much spam.
The google thing annoys me to – I sign in once and then expect that, that should cover me but I have to sign in every time – I can see how it’s useful but it’s also kinda annoying.
I import my blog posts into FB so I end up with some comments there but what I would really like is if those comments could appear on my blog instead of or as well as the ones on FB
I hate leaving comments – I’m very shy ……… *whimper* ……. tee hee heeeeeeeeee
@Scot Every comment helps
@Han Thank you for the compliment
@Daddy P Oh yeah, you are certainly shy
Commenting has to be as easy as possible or people won’t. I’ve gone to blogs where there are so many hoops to jump through that I lose my thoughts before I get a chance to type them out. When that happens, I think twice about bothering there again.
Hi Jen, that’s how I feel, I don’t want to waste my time re-typing something because of a stupid commenting system!
@Karen from Blazing Minds: testing the @reply comment – making it easier to reply to comments Karen
@sylvied: Thank for the update
@sylvied: I’m just testing it as well …….. *crash* ……. *tinkle* ……… [applying for a job as a crash test dummy now] ……….
Oh – it worked ……… another job opportunity down the drain I suppose …….
@Daddy Papersurfer: that ’s your comment number 1671…
@Daddy Papersurfer: at least you know what to use in your drains now …
@sylvied: I’m going for the prize yacht that goes to the first person to leave 2000 comments – you do remember promising that don’t you?
@Daddy Papersurfer: Ah Ha … Watch out for the HMS Gingernut on the high seas
@Karen from Blazing Minds: I’m now thinking soggy bottoms …….
#6 disqus
#7 thinking you’ve hit the submit button only for the captcha to then appear
Just about to start our blog and great to get some good advise. Come across all of these while comenting on other blogs and yes it has put me off.
Agree with Vic on #6 disqus – what’s that all about?
@Vic: Funny how a lot of people don’t like Disqus
That was very insightful am just new to blogging and am looking to extend my network and i do agree that it is off putting. I however just started using the google blog so i can see am probably going to face problems.
Thanks for the advice
@Jay Bee: Oooo Google Blog, my advice, get yourself a domain name and host your own blog with WordPress
@Daddy Papersurfer: Just trying to get you to 2,000 comments, so you can test out your soggy bottoms
Good stuff – this will help us in promoting our new blogs – we are also very new to this! Thumbs UP.
I know a girl called Soggy ……… just sayin’
…. and @Jay Bee ……. Wordpress is very good – even an idiot can manage it …. *looks in mirror* …….. crack …….. *mirror breaks*
Well written blog I try to leave comments whenever i can.I am new to blogging myself so any information i can get is Great!
There’s this super-specific blogging community that you only understand if you’re knee-deep in the trenches. So maybe my friends don’t 100% get why I dig comments, but anyone else with a blog understands how vital they are to not only your site’s survival, but to your sanity/ego/motivation to move forward with your life.
We judge a blog entirely on its comments. I could give less of a sh*t if you get millions of readers every month, but if you’re getting 100 comments per post you are the cat’s pajamas. If you’re in PR you understand that reaching out to bloggers is important. But which bloggers do you contact? Those who are part of something bigger? The columnists for AOL? The biggies on HuffPo? Or do you go to the ones who have established their own little “cult followings”? People like The Bloggess or Marie Forleo…
To be perfectly honest, the reason I comment on blogs isn’t because people ask. From my experience, both with my own comments and seeing why other people write, here are the top reasons I comment a blog post:
* The blogger has said something I agree or disagree with strongly
* I want to congratulate someone on a new job/baby/engagement/personal success
* Something is hilarious and I want to add my own experience
* Something is so amazing I couldn’t possibly leave the website without letting the blogger know how amazing they are but am too lazy to write an email (There is a fine line. Remember that.)
* There’s some form of list, usually in advice-form, where I have something to contribute
This is a great post!
Thank you for this. Personally, I don’t mind the captcha at all, but I don’t want to have to sign up for google. I had an interesting experience with comments once. Three appeared for me to approve. Two seemed a little off, so I decided to check out their websites and both came up as malicious! Of course I did not allow their comments.
@Rick: Glad to be of some help
@Marian Schembari: Wow, great comment and much appreciated.
@Elisabeth: I’ve walked away from many a blog where they ask to sign in with Google

I agree with Vic about Disqus if they are the reason my comment disappeared from the film review over at Blazing Minds.
At my age, I simply have to say no to jumping through hoops to comment; it’s too difficult (not to mention painful) to do without a sports bra!
As for those bloggers who never respond? Well… I’ve got teenagers… I’m used to being ignored, so that doesn’t really bother me all that much. Like with the kids, if I have something to say, I’m sayin’ it whether you acknowledge me or not… I know it gets in there… ‘osmosis’ or something like that anyway… just ask Daddy Papersurfer… he’s an old pro at not being listened to.
Hello? HELLO? ……. is anyone there?
@gitwizard: Did it!!!, please stop by and repost and I’ll look into it
