iBelieve my mum will also love the iPad

The iPad has been revealed for over a week now – so what are your thoughts on this latest gadget?

I have to admit that I had been waiting for the latest Apple launch with much anticipation.  I am a BIG Apple enthusiast, every thing we own from Apple is being used on daily basis in our household.  I do have total admiration for this brand who seems to deliver every time.

The iPad looks similar to what I had in mind, light, smart and feeding all of my family needs in terms of digital entertainment.

The name is a strange one and has triggered unavoidable jokes amongst us but I think it is almost irrelevant now.

The technical crowd is disappointed by its lack of features, not challenging enough for them, well let them play with more complicated toys…who cares?

The big question everyone is asking and one that matters to Apple is of course: “Who is going to buy the iPad?

Here is how I see it:

Families with disposable income, who have a computer at home, multiple iPods, ebook readers and so on…

Our family (and we are not alone) is on the web to read  (online medias are rubbing their hands), play, watch and share conversation.  Result?  We all get a bit grumpy when we have to take turns on the computer or when we realize that the battery is flat on the laptop and don’t even get us started on the time our family computer takes to load up!

Each one of us  needs a quick “online fix” and access at some point during the day. We now officially have “in real time digital needs” and I think the iPad is the answer to that.

I also believe that the iPad is perfect for the older generation.

Perfect for my technophobe mum whose eyesight is deteriorating, she wants to claim a bit of online entertainment herself but I know for a fact that buying a computer is far too daunting for her.

Could the iPad fill the gap for the senior market? We will have to see.

One thing is sure, Apple will have to be very clever in targeting this market and I am looking forward to seeing how they are going to do it.

What do you think about the iPad? love it, hate it?

The TG is always browsing and stuff on her iPod Touch – it’s very convenient – I reckon the iPad will work it’s way up the ‘wishlist’ ere long.

An iPad would make a marvellous prize in a competition BTW …… perhaps the first person to suggest it might get one as well ….. just a thought *whistles innocently*

It’s not the kind of product I was expecting and I’m not interested in a beefed up iPod. I wanted a real tablet with Mac OS.

I don’t like anything that Apple makes, including the new iPad. Sorry.

That’s ok Thomas, can I just ask? Have you had a bad experience as an Apple user or you simply don’t like the brand? Just curious that’s all ;)

Yeah Alex I think a lot of people feel let down in that way, I am sure it won’t be long before they come up with a tablet that responds to that, this one is almost like a concept prototype I guess.

being a Mac-less home (apart from the numerous ipods which have broken) .. I am wondering about this launch. I am all for making the interactivity larger as small touch phones are a nightmare .. but what capability does this new ipad have .. is it just games or does it have the full hit on internet etc like a netbook has?? (not that I know any of the techno world!)

There’s a reason why they didn’t market it with the HP line like they did the iPod.

(sing song) I know somethin’ you don’t knowwww…I know somethin’ you don’t knowwwww!

@70: it is supposed to enhance your browsing experience, the battery is lasting for up to 10 hours I believe which could be fantastic if going on long trips!

@Sylvie: For worldwide deployment, FAIL in my opinion. The points you made were the first I’d include in a list of what it’s good for.

OS Compliant, and we’re not hitting the Web3.0 milestone yet.

But if you’re a Mac house, probably a great addition to get away from unnecessary laptop use.

Colin Powell addressed the staff regarding “AOL Anywhere” in the ’90s at a conference I participated in…this…was exactly the device he described back then.

Blame Time Warner for the lag, lol.
