Over the past 2 or so weeks I have had internet connection from hell.  I was persuaded to upgrade my internet ’speed’ to 10x faster than what I had before after being told ‘when you blink you will miss the page down load’…. 2 weeks on I know this is a lie of course.  ( I had to install it myself and spent 2 hours + on the phone to  help people where English is not their first language.. and they got frustrated by me asking questions and the fact I had to crawl behind my PC to unplug and plug was such an inconveince to them !!)

And surely it can be no coincidence that at 22.00 hours GMT every night my PC slows to a grinding halt … and I am told it is my PC’s fault !?! Nor can it be a coincidence that before I upgraded I could connect my wireless router to the internet and now told I have a faulty lappytop or wirless router…. groan!

All in all my ISP is causing me stress….. I am not techy, I pay my money and expect a service…  erm I am being unreasonable?

I resisted getting the internet some 8 years ago when my brother offered me a computer that was being thrown into a skip where he worked .. I said no but was persuaded otherwise. I was on dial up at that time and I recall my first bill was over £150 (hey 5 mins here, 10 mins there in peak time don’t mount up to much do they??)

So it was a case of ’slowly, slowly catchy monkey’ that I became hooked on the internet .. and it was not until 2 years ago when I changed career path that I did seriously became ‘hooked’

These past two weeks or so have been a living hell. Not only have I been only intermittently able to do what I have got so used to doing online but I also have a teenager that has serious MSN withdrawal as the lap top is now redundant and viewed as only a  piece of plastic because it won’t link to the ‘net.

This lack of internet has amazed me as to how quickly I have become dependent on it !! When it is down it is like I have lost part of me and to be honest I have forgotten what I did before it came into my life.

However,  you will be pleased to note I have discovered I have watched a bit more TV ( not good, I had forgotten how rubbish most of the programmes are), I have done more art (that is has been essential just now, so a ‘little’ thank you to my ISP .. but only a very little ray of sunshine), gone to bed earlier (ok that could be a good thing too) and I have actually written a letter  (yes I know I have discovered I can still ”put pen to paper’)

So the question is ‘what would you be doing … if you had no internet?’

(not as a one off but for a long period of time…thankful to say I have still resisted singing around the piano up until now!!)

How I understand you!! From time to time I have problems with my internet access.Support does not allways work but last time I was very pleased with the man the helped me to install the wireless router. That was an exception!!!I have net in my house since maybe 2002.Before that I used it in my job only.First I was addicted to chats and msn suff!!Then I quit all that and moved into blogging. Then everything in the net was developing so fast that it was amazing just to discover it and try it.Now whenever I am without it it seems I do not know what to do as I use it for almost anything- to comunicate, to watch videos and music via streaming,to learn by tutorials,to read the news,to know the weather,to get travel directions, bus and train departures,to search jobs, etc….I had to shut it for several months last year because I was cutting all kind of expenses. That was a hard decision.Internet is a time thief if you do not have discipline.I learned to deal with that and now I feel more confortable.Once we had no mobile phone and we still had a life. That’s what I try to believe!!!!:)

If it exists, it should work properly …… this tale of woe is very familiar to me as you know ……. it’ll get sorted I’m sure.

The other upside apart from doing ’stuff’ in the real world has been the peace and quiet enjoyed by some members of FMB ……. I feel quite refreshed ………

I guess I will be doing more “practical” things and procastinating less…:)

If I have no internet connection I would surely do valuable things and will not make my monitor same as in the picture. It is very frustrating if you live your life in the internet. Without it? then it is a hassle!

Well, this is easy to answer, since I had no internet for the past couple days!

Ohhh…I’d like to say that I’d be out strolling the local parks, basking in the sun and feeding pigeons. Or perhaps I’d be visiting the local art museums, taking in a bit of culture. Perhaps the Colonel and I would picnic somewhere and fly a kite (where’s that bra again…).

Sadly, all I did when I had no internet….was sit on the phone with tech support trying to get my internet back.

    (shoulder shrug)

…great post70Steen, I have been struggling with wifi the last “3 days on the road” and I know how frustrating and so very dependent we are of it!

I think I’d be doing the same as The Rev XDDDD.

If I couldn’t fix it, I’d connect with a GPRS-modem to continue working. Else, probably cooking something with chocolate to wipe away my tears, and afterwards some reading or drawing would be fine.

If the issue continues the day after, get Really Angry.

@Kevin Why was looking at Sylvied weird? – has she dyed her hair or grown an extra ear? – the Fuellers need to know ……

@ belinha it is so frustrating isn’t it when you can’t get to the bottom of a fault but how glorious you have found a helpful man to hook up your wireless.. I could use one of those as we still have no wireless! You are so right about the internet being a time thief. I think this gap of a couple of weeks has taught me that and how much I have done with out it :-)

@ Daddy P surely there are not peeps out there who were thankful of your temporary ‘radio silence’? I do find that hard to believe lol :-)

@Catalina hee hee I think we would still procrastination without the ‘net… verbally ;-)

@byajero I liked the picture as it summed up how I felt when I was typing this lol … of course I could never do such a dreadful thing :-)

@Rev I can ID readily in what you say … all good intentions but end up spending that time getting the darned thing sorted. :-)
@Sylvie & Kevin you too must suffer a great deal when you have internet problems as this is your livelihood … maybe you should consider a correspondence back up plan .. where we can all write to each other lol :-)

@ Noir oooo no idea about the ‘GPRS-modem’ but can so identify with the chocolate … ‘if all else fails there is always chocolate’ :-)

@DP I don’t think you should be asking such personal questions between man and wife ;-)
