Atomic-dogmAHi All, Tango here.

So I received my first snuff vote this week. Now, I’ve spent enough years in meetings and boardrooms with misogynistic men to develop a thick skin and I learned long ago how to distinguish constructive feedback from empty criticism. But I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that this snuff stung a little.

However, it has got me thinking …

Why do you fuel?

I really enjoy reading the personalized comments I receive via FMB fuel and, although I’m far from consistent, I try to fuel those bloggers whose blogs I enjoy reading as often as I can. I’m not a very competitive person, but it is rewarding to see my blogs appear on the front pages every now and then. Heck, sometimes I’ll even fuel myself. But I think my main reason for fueling is to stay connected to the people I’ve come to know through blogging.

Do you snuff?

Aside from the ‘Snuff Daddy Papersurfer Day’, I’ve never snuffed a blog. It’s not because I have never seen a blog I don’t like, I suppose it’s more about not wanting to offend. Sort of that “if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all” mentality. But is this right? If FMB is a democratic environment where every opinion counts, should I be snuffing more often?

For me, the biggest disappointment in the snuff vote I received was the lack of detail. “I don’t like the posts” doesn’t provide much in the way of feedback but it does express my snuffer’s opinion. FMB gives everyone the chance to express their opinions and I do wonder how often people communicate when they see or read something they don’t like.

I doubt that I’ll become a regular blog snuffer, but I’m thankful for this little reminder. It’s made me more aware of who I fuel and why.

I don’t snuff on purpose. I wouldn’t even join a “snuff DP day”.

Not that there aren’t things or people I don’t like, but merely if you don’t like a blog, well, then don’t go there in the first place.

Of course then there is the issue of a blogger blogging “bad” about you. Then I would still use the fuel option to voice my opinion or leave a comment on their blog or if I tink I need to share it with my readers or the other blogger still deserves some linky love, I blog about it on my blog.

Giving positive feedback is not easy and not many take the time to do so. For those who do, I admire them a lot.

Backing Linky…if you don’t like what you see simply don’t go there…snuffing is a feature very rarely used* and if used should be done with constructed criticism. In this case it resulted in a great post from Tango who comes out as the strongest link in my views…

*note to snuffers: a repeated snuffing action with no other intention than bringing negativity amongst the community as opposed to creating constructed/ adult conversation will be denied access to the kingdom…OKAY!?!

I can’t say I have “snuffed” any of the blogs that I read via FuelMyBlog and every time I see a FuelMyBlog banner on a blog, it gets a thumbs up from me.

It may be better to leave a comment when you fuel a blog, with a bit of “constructive criticism” than snuffing it ;)

good post T. This needs raising again. I know we have canvassed opinion before about this in the forum. The general opinion was to ’snuff the snuff’
I have been stuffed 2x (once was DP so that doesn’t count) the other ’stung’ for me too. It was from a blog I had never come across before and it left nothing constructive in its stuffing path.
I just don’t see the point of having such a button at all, like we say if you don’t like what you see then don’t come back

The snuff will go in the next release, it is taking a little longer than expected but trust me, it is something we have to remove to add a far better “positive” feature. Research has shown that some people have clicked on snuff due to language barriers too..We are on to it, great post and feel free to discuss other areas that need improvement. Chances are we agree :)

    Stuff the snuff!

  7. Daddy Papersurfer (1685 comments) says:

Perhaps there should be a ‘kick the bucket’ feature instead ……. I bet I’m first.

Thumbs up (and toes too) for that Kevin (and Sylvie) I was snuffed by a foreign language blogger and afterwards thought it was probably because they didn’t like the bra photos I’ve used. I agree with everyone else here so far, haven’t snuffed people and like Linky, didn’t want to do the snuff the old man… err, I mean Daddy Papersurfer thing.

    I have 19 snuffs.

Before the registering to vote thing came in (I am an ooooold member) I had a stretch were the same person kept snuffing me daily, following a post I did. My anorexia post brought out a few freaks who don’t think it’s a legitimate illess, as did my anti-drug posts bring out the usual “you just need to get high and then you’d understand” people. So because they could, they kept snuffing me.

I suppose if I cared, that would matter to me.

Maybe I should just get a shirt made?

    How about:

Fracas. Better than a cat. Snuffed 19 times and still here!

    ROTFL

  9. KevinD (138 comments) says:

I want to make you that Tshirt..ohh please, let me!

It has given me an idea, be right back!

Is there a prize for the most snuffed? I’m up to 20 and I’m quite prepared to snuff myself again and again if necessary …..

  11. sylvied (392 comments) says:

@Daddy Papersurfer: did I really snuffed you that much???

  12. Daddy Papersurfer (1685 comments) says:

Must have been the language barrier ……. you luuuuuuuuuuurve me really.

I’ve just noticed the time!!!! – what are you doing, up and typo-ing so early?

  13. penfold (88 comments) says:

    I didn´t snuff today…

  14. Daddy Papersurfer (1685 comments) says:

    *sniff*

  15. tNb (59 comments) says:

It’s great to see so many reactions to snuffing!

Sounds like snuffy will soon be a distant memory, a thing of the past, a figment of our imaginations …

  16. sylvied (392 comments) says:

@Daddy Papersurfer: I call it adouble assertiveness of a past action….oh ok…you are right teacher!

  17. sylvied (392 comments) says:

@tNb: absolutely! I think we should keep it…

  18. Daddy Papersurfer (1685 comments) says:

    @tNb: I love figments!!!

  19. penfold (88 comments) says:

Well if you´re going to ditch it I´m going to get some constructive snuffing in before it´s too late!

I have some snuffs. I´m very fond of them…

  20. fracas (536 comments) says:

@ Kevin – LOL, I bet you have the same idea I did… and I hope you make millions with it. Then… you should buy Sylvie something grand!

@Daddy Papersurfer – Yeah, so you have 20… you got yours by being sneaky and making a game of it. I got mine the honest way… annoying others. Rofl.

@Penfold – You didn’t snuff today? Eeuuw. You do know that causes mouth cancer don’t you?

@tNb – Ummm, you kiss that? He does snuff you know.

    Wait.

    Ohhhhhhhhh. I get it now.

Carry on. (And yes, I do mean the canoodling. It’s safe… I think he meant something else.)

  21. fracas (536 comments) says:

@ Kevin – However… if you *didn’t* have the same idea as me, email me and I’ll tell you mine and then maybe you can make millions with it.

  22. 70steen (750 comments) says:

tNb when I first read this I focused on the ’snuff’ then realised the ‘why do you fuel?’ bit.
I try to be consistent and personalise my fuel comments … because I love to read ‘fuel’ that has been sent to me singular. I too, must confess that I fuel some non personal messages as I have run out of interweave time… I am also a bit of a ‘I love to see my avatar on the front page’ junkie too.
& yes it is good to feel connected to those who you have met through blogging, there are some beautiful people out there . I know you have experienced this personally to a wonderful degree x

  23. tNb (59 comments) says:

Fracas, are you suggesting that FMB replace the snuff feature with canoodle? ;-)

70s, one of these days I know I’m going to mix up personalized fuel messages … ooh, just imagine the gossip & scandal! :-)

  24. Daddy Papersurfer (1685 comments) says:

@tNb: Oh you meant Penfold was a boring old fart …… that explains a lot ……

  25. 70steen (750 comments) says:

@tNb: ooo we love gossip & scandal… bring it on lol :-D

  26. fracas (536 comments) says:

@tNb – I think you and Penfold could replace the snuff with canoodle, but for many of the rest of us, doing that might cause some problems.

Come to think of it… there are actually a fair number of the FMB crowd who might actually prefer to canoodle than snuff.

Okay.. carry on with that. I’ll just remain an observer.

Oh.. that doesn’t sound right, does it? LOL

  27. KevinD (138 comments) says:

    @fracas: I am going to email you, let’s go 50/50? !!

  28. Daddy Papersurfer (1685 comments) says:

@fracas: Stick out for 75/25 Fraccy ……. what are we talking about?

  29. fracas (536 comments) says:

    For the rest of you…

Kevin and I were talking about who would get to keep Daddy Papersurfer in his old age. Kevin seemed to think it should be 50/50 but for some reason Daddy Papersurfer seems to want to be with lil ole me for a whopping 75% of the time.

He must be missing his long lost brother, Mr. Frac. At any rate, Uma can’t be here that much since she’s got this career being famous and all. I hope DP is ok with being stuck with plain old frac the rest of the time.

    ;-)

(Got your mail Kevin. Already replied.)
