Aug 30

As some of you may know, in June we sent out a long survey. Of particular interest to us were the ideas to make fuelmyblog a better experience for everyone, and we will come back to that with another post very soon and of course, who won the prize.  So, to the survey I have listed the top two responses for each question, more where important.

1. Male – 53.6% Female – 46.4%

2. How old are you?

  • · 35 – 50 (33.8%)
  • · 20 – 30 (27.8%)

3. How long have you been blogging?

  • · 1 – 2 Years (30.5%)
  • · 2 – 4 Years (27.8%)

4. How old is your main blog?

  • · 1 – 2 Years (31.3%)
  • · 2 – 4 Years (22.2%)

5. How many blogs do you write for? (2.6% write for over 10 blogs!)

  • · 2 blogs (27.8%)
  • · 1 blog (23.2%)

6. How many blogs do you own?

  • · 1 blog (29.1%)
  • · 2 blogs (29.1%)

7. Are your blogs business or personal?

  • · Personal (52.3%)
  • · Both (44.4%)
  • · Business (3.3%)

8. How often do you blog?

  • · Most days (47.7%)
  • · Every day (27.2%)

9. What blog platform do you use on your main blog?

  • · Blogger (62.3%)
  • · Wordpress.org (19.2%)
  • · Wordpress.com (15.9%)
  • · Movable Type (1.3%)
  • · Live Journal (1.3%)

10. How many readers do you have per day?

  • · 10-50 (32.5%)
  • · 50 -100 (19.9%)

11. Are you paid to blog professionally?

  • · No (73.5%)
  • · Part-time (15.9%)
  • · Yes (10.6%)

12. Do you have adverts on your blog? Some responded that they wanted to but were unsure, others were not allowed.

  • · Yes (58.9%)
  • · No (28.5%)

13. Your thoughts on advertising on blogs

  • · I like them (31.1%)
  • · Do not bother me (30.5%)
  • · I have clicked on an advert (17.2%)

14. How much money did you make last month (in US $)

  • · $0 – (51.7%)
  • · $1-50 – (27.2%)

15. Are you making more money on your blog this year compared to last year?

  • · Do not make money (49.0%)
  • · More (29.1%)
  • · Less (11.3%)
  • · Same (10.6%)

16. Would you like local blog meet-up’s?

  • · Yes (57.0%)
  • · No (38.4%)

What stands out to me is that 58.9% of us have adverts on our blogs yet nearly half of us make zero money. Blogger is by far the most popular platform, I would have thought Wordpress would have taken a larger percentage from them.

If anyone that makes money on their blog has ten top tips, please contact us and we’ll put the post up. I’d like to start weekly blogging tips posts and would really appreciate some guest posts.

I’d also be happy to invest some time and money in a far more extensive survey, one reaching out far and beyond fuelmyblog. If we do this, would you be able to help us spread the word?

Let’s discuss the results in the comments below.

I was struck by 57% want to meet up.. how fab is that ? Despite all the web stuff we still remain human and want to have that interaction :-)

  2. Linky Love (115 comments) says:

I am always in for guestpost about making money online :-)

Maybe you could ask first what questions people have and then anybody can give her or his input.

50 percent not making money: because they don’t have a strategy or because they don’t feel like making money online?
